ragtags studio central: sarah's random this & that

random means "having no definite aim or purpose," (1655), taken from "at random" (1565), "at great speed" (thus, "carelessly, haphazardly"). In 1980s college student slang, it somehow, and sadly, acquired a distinct sense of "inferior, undesirable." (Online Etymology Dictionary, Douglas Harper) Well, okay, fine, Mr. Online Etymology Dictionary person, but THIS is the 21st Century. It's a whole new ball of wax.

A little Tide Over until, well, later

Well, kids, I'm back from LA, back from New Mexico, very happy to have been there then and very happy to be here now. This is a Tide Over blog entry. You know when you got home from school and (if you were lucky!) got a snack. . .
but then, there was still no sign of supper and it was getting on towards 6? So
you went rummaging optimistically in the cupboards for a forgotten box of triscuits "Or SOMETHING" (see August 24, 2007 post) to "tide you over"?
This is your box of triscuits (Or SOMETHING) darlings, supper is going to be a little late!
I will try to remember to tell you about our class, the gallery opening, Little Tokyo (YAY, thank you for always perfect advice, Kelly K!), the Skyscrapperly coolness of the "buildings" which came in for Angela's Skylines & Skyscrapers swap, and last but not least, how much work we did on the fabulous upcoming all new 2007 HOLIDAY EDITION of Pasticcio the Quartz (more about THAT, too!) in LA, until then, here is a photo of Angela and me before the In This House & Soul Dwellings opening at A Studio Gallery:

Tomorrow and Saturday are going to be HUGE mailing days - to blogalicious prizewinners, to swap people, maybe to you, if you're LUCKY, too!

Signing off UIGATIA
(until I get around to it again),
sarah

When was the last time (and the winners are)

I was going to write "that you won something?", but then I happened to glance at a postcard from Wide Open by Randi Feuerhelm Watts.
Wide Open: Inspiration & Techniques for Art Journaling on the Edge (Book & Card Kit)

Here's what the postcard says:
WHEN WAS the last time
YOU
ASKED A stranger
if YOU COULD
take their picture
Well to tell you the truth, and I know I'm repeating myself,
I don't actually have a camera of my OWN, but whenever I
have a camera in my HAND, no matter to whom it belongs,
I just do start asking everyone that very question. So for me
the answer is, recently.
Maybe we should return to the original question. When was
the last time that you won something? Well, if you are Marti,
Lori or Jean (yes, it helps to leave more than one comment
since your name went into the drawing twice, and the answer
is, it's a local auction to benefit The Autism Society though for some
reason my two canvases did not get put on the auction site, sad,
maybe that means I will get them back for myself?!), I have
packages full of many cool things (and here, you can see the
correct use of the phrase) "such as" art, books, supplies and more
to mail to you when I return. Please let me know your addresses.
Corina update: Yes, the stitches are out. Friday she had a
root canal on the one tooth which had just split off altogether.
More on the side than on the front, so that's good. She has only
wanted a retainer her WHOLE LIFE. When the dentist said,
"Root canal," she said, "I don't want one, please give me a
retainer instead." The dentist said "Wha???" She said, "Yes,
I believe you heard me correctly. I would prefer a retainer."
Dentist, "No can do." Corina, "I beg my heart." Dentist, "Wha??",
etc. She may be good in court, in her size 0 suits, but in the
dentist chair, she's just like the rest of us.
Next sub. The two "house" facades below are the bottom half
(my contribution) of the sample Angela and I created for
The Two-Story House class being held at Zinnia on this Friday,
September 7th, from 11am - 3pm (I think).
Please come take our class and learn tricks of the transparency
and mosaic trades - it will be ever so much fun.

I am already eagerly looking forward to the first Saturday I will
be home (the 22nd) with no more shopgirl duties. The plan is,
finish all the journals I have to send to everyone, and get the
Ragtags Studio Central whipped into shape. Not all on that
one Saturday of course, but WD. With Dispatch.
Def. before the holidays! As for these HUGE spaces that have
appeared, disconcertingly empty, I have no time to try to fix!
I must fly. Talk to you later. . .

"Will I see you in September?"

Here are a few quick updates from the home of Ragtags Studio Central:

#1 Even though he won't read this, Happy Birthday, Dad. 74 - how can that even be possible?

#2 I will draw names for BOXES of prizes, and announce winners (explained in the previous post) tonight, but will not mail out packages until the third week in September, after I'm back from California (for the In This House at the A Studio Gallery opening and The Two-Story House class at Zinnia) and New Mexico (for Jay's wedding on the 15th).

#3 Our nieces Ryan and the above-mentioned Jay have been here for the past few days for their friend Cat's wedding. Jay leaves this afternoon, Ryan tomorrow. I am distracted.

#4 I did a last minute second card for Red's current Tarot deck project, the back is mostly thanks to one of Anahata Katkin's Spare Parts compilations:

#5 Oh no, oh no- I am suddenly beginning to realize I have SO MUCH TO DO . . . and so little time in which to do it . . .
